Indra Land Vehicles is already prepared to channel the land contracts that will be deployed by the Ministry of Defense focused on modernizing the capabilities of the Armed Forces, according to Indra sources. In this sense, the Government gave the green light this Tuesday to the pre-financing of the 31 defense programs provided for in the industrial plan.
They indicated that Indra continues to progress in its plans to become a leading company in the Defense sector. One of the key steps to advance in this direction was the creation of Indra Land Vehicles, its own division that will allow it to become a benchmark in land platforms.
In this context, the creation and development of Indra Land Vehicles allows the company to have a specific division with autonomy and self-directionwhich will allow us to go from being a technological integrator to a complete manufacturer of military land vehicles. The development of this division is a milestone in this market, since it represents the de facto end of the monopoly that Santa Bárbara had had in this segment since its privatization in 2001.
To get to this point, the company has taken several steps in the last twelve months. In October 2024, it acquired a majority stake in Tess Defense (also participated by Santa Bárbara Sistemas (SBS), Sapa and EM&E), becoming the main contractor of the VCR 8×8 Dragon.
Precisely, it is expected that these vehicles, which are now manufactured in Trubiaare integrated into the El Tallerón factory that the company acquired Duro Felguera a few months ago. At this moment the company is preparing the facilities to take over the production of armored vehicles and other ground defense systems as soon as the first contracts are activated.
Indra has also signed an alliance with Rheinmetall to collaborate on an update of the Army’s Leopard 2A6 Combat System, with cutting-edge technology that ensures a 100% European solution.
