The Government approves reducing the retirement age of forest firefighters
He Council of Ministers This Tuesday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, approved a Royal Decree that recognizes reducing coefficients from retirement age to forestry and environmental agents. In this way, these professionals will be able to access retirement until a maximum of five – or exceptionally, six – years before the ordinary age, which as of today is 66 years and eight months.
This will happen from the entry into force of the measure, which will take place on the same date as the General State Budget Law (PGE) for 2026 or of the legal normal that establishes the applicable additional contribution.
Specifically, the age of access for forestry and environmental agents to the pension will be reduced by as many years as results from applying the reducing coefficient of 0.20 to the full years actually worked. Of course, the professionals They will have to prove a minimum contribution period of 15 years under the condition of forestry and environmental agent (and up to 37 years to qualify for a reduction of six years on the mandatory retirement age).

In this way, time spent as an official in positions of forestry and environmental agents in any public administration will be considered as time actually worked. Apart from the reduction in the retirement age, The Government will apply an additional contribution, which will be established subsequently to this Royal Decree in a norm with the force of law.
With this measure, the Executive complies with the Third Additional Provision of the Basic Law of Forestry and Environmental Agents and “responds” to one of the demands made by this group, which may benefit from early retirement, as a consequence of the exceptionally painful, toxic, dangerous or unhealthy nature of the activity carried out.
