Unemployment and alimony: Díaz announces changes

Bots monopolize appointments in Social Security or SEPE for resale: UGT denounces a black market

The second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Diaz, has announced that it will undertake “now” a legislative reform to eliminate the penalty suffered by women who perceive the dole and also the alimony

This is what he said this Tuesday during an interview at the Senate Plenary in response to a question from the PP senator, Paloma Gómez, about the situation in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE).

The maximum and minimum ceiling of unemployment benefits varies depending on the composition of the family nucleus. The figure changes depending on how many children under 26 years of age (or those over this age with disabilities) are dependent on the person receiving the benefit and the income they receive. Among these incomes there are sometimes alimony, the benefit paid in the event of divorce to the parent in charge of the minor. Normally that person is a woman, so those pensions tend to remove them from the cap on the contributory benefit for dependent children.

The second vice president and Minister of Labor has recognized that there is a “penalty” to women who receive unemployment benefits and alimony. “They suffer indirect discrimination. We are going to undertake the legislative reform now. I hope you will accompany us in this modification,” Díaz claimed to the PP.

As reported The CountryDíaz’s department later clarified the proposal: “Alimony payments, which are generally received by women, will stop counting so that women can collect the maximum amount of the contributory benefit that corresponds to them per dependent child., regardless of whether or not this child receives alimony“. This reform would affect contributory benefits, which are generated through contributions, and not the unemployment benefit, which is received in certain circumstances when the former are exhausted.

Denies “collapse” in the SEPE

On the other hand, the PP deputy has denounced the “collapse” of the SEPE offices due to a 14.91% decrease in staff during the 2018-2022 period (855 people), problems with prior appointments and with the ALMA application, which has cost 20 million euros.

On the issue, the Minister of Labor has denied the “collapse” in the SEPE and has assured that the left is “always” fixing the PP cuts.

“Mr. Aznar cut the SEPE from 10,136 workers to 7,307, at a rate of 1,000 fewer workers per year. Mr. Zapatero arrived and had to reconstitute them until they reached 9,326 (…), but, in addition, as soon as you arrived with Mr. Rajoy, they cut the Public Employment Service again, leaving it emaciated,” he explained.
